Dewey Beach Patrolman First Class Jack Kane was recognized by Gov. John Carney and Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, at an intimate ceremony May 3 at the governor’s office in Legislative Hall for his heroic actions in saving six people from a house fire.
Kane discovered the fire and saved residents and a dog from the blaze that began in the early morning hours of April 16 at 1902 Bayard Ave. and quickly spread to 124 and 122 Swedes St. Other than a minor burn Kane sustained to his hand during rescue efforts, no injuries were reported.
