Dewey Sip & Shop spotlights local artists, handmade goods Nov. 24-26
The Developing Artist Collaboration will host its popular Black Friday weekend shopping event, Dewey Sip & Shop, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday to Sunday, Nov. 24 to 26, at the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, 1301 Coastal Hwy., Dewey Beach.
Dewey Sip & Shop provides an enjoyable alternative to the seasonal frenzy of big-box stores, allowing shoppers to find one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts and purchase them directly from the talented artists who made them. Attractions also include live local music, the Out of the Box DIY, and a bar where shoppers can purchase creative cocktails and beer provided by Dogfish Head Brewery and Dewey Beer Co. There will also be a complimentary beer tasting daily from 12 to 3 p.m. provided by Dogfish Head Brewery.
This event continues to provide a lucrative platform for local artists to sell their art and handmade goods to locals and visitors alike over Thanksgiving weekend. What began nine years ago with a small collection of emerging artists selling gifts at The Starboard has grown into an event featuring more than 45 local artist-vendors welcoming thousands of guests from all over the region each day.
DIY art projects, merchandise and bar sales all fund the Rehoboth-based nonprofit DAC’s mission of providing education, resources, opportunities and connections to elevate its artists’ creative careers.
"It’s so rewarding to see this event evolve for almost a decade,” said Leah Beach, DAC founder. “So many shoppers have made this their Black Friday tradition and are excited to support local artists. My favorite part is seeing our artists succeed in selling their work. We have artists that have done this consistently every year. We hope to provide yet another fun, enjoyable way for people to shop local and enjoy everything that Dewey Beach has to offer.”
This year’s location is the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, an upscale venue that not only avoids the weather challenges of previous years, but also can comfortably accommodate the growing number of shoppers and artists.
Dewey Sip & Shop is free to attend, and parking is free all over Dewey Beach.
