Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES has announced the players selected for the 68th DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game, to be played Friday, June 21, at the University of Delaware football stadium.
DFRC and the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association have chosen Marvin Dooley of Woodbridge High School (Gold) and John Reed of Caravel Academy (Blue) to be the head coaches for this year’s game.
Dom Trotta, J.D. Messeck and Brandon Dooley of Woodbridge, Eston Ennis of Sussex Technical High School and Patrick Moffitt of St. Andrew’s School will serve as the Gold team assistant coaches. Dave Willard, Matt Rice and John Smith of Caravel Academy, Rahsaan Matthews of Howard High School and John Bellace of Archmere Academy will assist for the Blue.
Milford coach Jed Bell will serve as camp director, along with Dan Ritter of Howard, Frank Moffett of Hodgson Vo-Tech and Brian Timpson of Appoquinimink as assistant camp directors. Jody Russell of Newark Charter School will serve as the DFRC Blue-Gold Athletic Committee chair, assisted by John Wilson of St. Georges Technical High School. Dr. Tony Glenn serves as the DFRC Blue-Gold athletic director.
Both football squads comprise 36 high school senior athletes who have been identified as students of outstanding character who are also exceptional football players.
A total of 48 schools across the state will be represented by students participating as football players, cheerleaders, band members and student ambassadors, helping to spread DFRC’s message of diversity, acceptance and abilities throughout their schools and communities. As part of the DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Program, high school participants have the opportunity to be matched with Buddies – children and young adults with intellectual disabilities – through the Hand-in-Hand Program, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.
Proceeds from the game and all other DFRC fundraising events are used to support programs that enrich the lives of Delaware citizens with intellectual disabilities. Since 1956, DFRC has distributed more than $6.4 million in grant funding to organizations throughout the state that share its mission. More information is available at dfrc.org or by calling the DFRC office at 302-454-2730. Tickets for the DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game are available at bluehens.evenue.net/events/BCC-DFRC.
