When one enters Dirty Blonde Delaware, the detailed marbled floor immediately catches the eye while the sound of the salon’s latest record begins to play. Freddy, a small dog, rushes over to be the first to greet customers.
Business partners Courtney Hennessey and Kristina Tallent recently opened a new salon in Nassau Commons outside Lewes near the new Redner’s Fresh Market. They go the extra mile to create a relaxed environment for clients.
The owners take pride in working hard, keeping themselves educated as they pursue their ownership, hone their skills and build an environment that ensures a unique, customized experience for clients.
Taking at least 20 classes each year, both owners recognize the importance of continuing their education to keep their skills sharp and knowledge expanded, as every person has a different style, preference and situation.
They aim to build an authentic space that is hard to replicate. The client is offered a record to play during their stay and a beverage of their choice.
It’s important that their business is a place that welcomes all – male, female and nonbinary.
Hennessey and Tallent both have a similar work style, which makes them comfortable working alongside each other.
“Working with her is like working with myself,” Hennessey said.
The duo enjoys the relaxed atmosphere they have created; it’s not only convenient for the customer, but also makes working more enjoyable.
Both women studied cosmetology at the Delaware Learning Institute of Cosmetology, but they did not meet there because they were studying at different times. Hennessey has 10 years of experience, with notable clients such as The Lumineers, Green Day and many artists at music festivals. She specializes in eight different methods of hair extensions, blonding services and cuts. When not in the salon, she is typically relaxing or coaching her cheer team. Tallent has been working in the field for eight years, specializing in cuts, dimensional color and blonding services. They take clients for color, cuts, extensions or whatever is needed.
The owners plan to add a barber to the team, while continuing to stress the importance of booking at a place that is comfortable, safe and has a welcoming atmosphere.
