While I can sympathize with a recent letter writer who advocated for treating dogs better, i.e., “Anyone who objects should try spending 24 hours locked in a room…,” I do object. You don’t know me or my dog. My sweetheart is 10 years old, arthritic and gets confused easily on our walks. I take him when, where and for the length of time I know he can handle. I love him dearly.
I’m all in for treating animals with the love and respect they deserve. Too often they are neglected and abused, and I fervently hope we would all speak up for those among us who have no voice, but what you’re proposing is an overall policing of people who live with, care for and love their animal companions. Don’t paint us all with the same brush, and maybe think about the volunteer opportunities to take a shelter dog out for a day at the dog park. As for me, I ask, respectfully, butt out.
