Donald Slaughter, avid Yankees fan

June 7, 2025

Donald “Don” Slaughter passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was born Oct. 6, 1953, in Milford, to Leon and Lorraine Slaughter. He was a graduate of Milford High School. Don made his career working for the Diamond State Telephone Co. and E.I. DuPont/INVISTA in Seaford.

Don met his first love and wife, Gail, in the 1960s while camping with their parents on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Years later, they met again in the ’70s and married.

Don enjoyed traveling with Gail to the Outer Banks, Florida, and scuba diving in Mexico and the Caribbean. They also spent time traveling the East Coast and the Mid-Atlantic states. In the winter, they enjoyed skiing in the Poconos and Catskills.

Don was an avid Yankees fan and traveled to New York to the Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as to many Yankees games. He also loved fishing and weightlifting.

Don will be sadly missed by his close friends and relatives. Don was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Slaughter; his father, Leon Slaughter; and his beloved Labrador Retriever, Gunner. If you saw Don in his pickup, you saw Gunner riding along in the front seat.

Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years; his brother and wife, Bob and Theresa Slaughter; his son and wife, Mickey and Jamie Slaughter; and grandson, Loghan.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, June 11, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton.

In keeping with Don's wishes, if you wish to donate in his memory, send donations to Milford Little League.
