Donald V. Parker, 76, of Georgetown passed away surrounded by his family at Christiana Hospital Tuesday, March 22, 2011.
Born Jan. 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Clarence and Elva West Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sisters, Doris Moore and Bette Chaffinch; his brothers, Joe and James Parker; and a beloved great-grandson, George Jenkins Jr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1952-56, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was retired from the Delaware Department of Transportation at the position of inspector. He loved coaching Little League and was a NASCAR fan and a New York Yankees fan. His greatest love was spending time with his family, and visiting with family and friends. He also loved playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn A. Parker, whom he married in 1958. He is also survived by his children: Bruce Parker and his wife Liz of Florida; Brad Parker and his wife Jane of Millsboro; Mike Parker and his wife Robin; and Tim Parker and his wife Pam – all of Georgetown; and his grandchildren: Pam Jenkins and her husband George; Alyssa, Cortney and Britanie; Brian and Mike Jr., and a great-grandson: Parker. Donald is also survived by his sisters: Pat Harris of Seaford; and Janet Ware of Georgetown; and brothers: Ralph Parker of Delmar, Dale Parker of Blades, Richard Parker of Laurel and Jerry Parker of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 25, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. Friends may call one hour prior, and Pastor Bill Sammons Sr. will officiate. Interment follows at the Cokesbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
