Douglas Harrison Green, devoted husband, father

November 26, 2024

Douglas Harrison Green passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024. He was born Jan. 3, 1984, in Silver Spring, Md.

After graduating from high school, he pursued higher education at Frostburg State University and earned his doctorate in physical therapy from East Carolina University. Douglas achieved the prestigious orthopedic clinical specialist certification, demonstrating his exceptional expertise and dedication to the field of physical therapy.

Douglas was not only a leader in his field but also an advocate for his profession. He served with distinction in the Delaware House of Delegates for the APTA, working tirelessly to advance the profession within the state and alignment within the nation.

Above all, Douglas was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah E. Green; and their three children, Harrison, Henry and Morgan. He is also deeply mourned by his parents, Jeffrey and Irene Green of Felton; his brothers, Scott Green (Lericia) of Baltimore, Md., Bryan Green (Chris) of Manchester, Md., and Jason Green of Silver Spring, Md. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents-in-law, Walter and Paula of York, Pa.; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice Quesenberry (Steve) of York, Katherine Gruver (Matt) of York, and Mary Anthony (Sean) of Bloomsburg, Pa.; as well as the nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Doug! Plus, the countless friends, colleagues, and patients that Doug held near and dear in his heart.

No matter where life’s adventures took them, vacations, hockey practice, ice skating lessons, dance recitals, ninja training, or jiu-jitsu, Douglas always felt at home when surrounded by his loved ones. Long days never stopped him from ending his evenings snuggled up with his family, reading books, playing board games, or transforming the family room into a WWE ring for epic wrestling matches filled with giggles and joy. Those dimples his children inherited from him were his greatest reward, and their laughter was the music of his life.

A loving and steadfast husband, Douglas shared 20 amazing years with his wife, Sarah, who lovingly called him "D." Together, they built a life full of memories, adventures, and love. Douglas was Sarah's biggest supporter and greatest teammate, a true testament to their beautiful partnership.

Douglas's energy extended beyond his home. Recently, he celebrated completing his first half-marathon in record time and earning his coaching certification to guide his children in ice hockey; another way he poured his love into their lives. He polished his skating skills right alongside them, always leading by example. When he wasn’t on the ice or the trail, Douglas could be found hiking in the great outdoors, immersed in a good book, or hosting cherished family movie nights.

A celebration of his remarkable life with immediate family and friends will be held at a later date to honor his memory and the lasting impact he made on so many.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to organizations that Douglas was very passionate about: Wounded Warrior Project, support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=10043; K9s For Warriors, donate.k9sforwarriors.org; National Capital Therapy Dogs, nctdinc.org/Donate-Online; Healthy Kids Running Series, runsignup.com/Race/Donate/DE/Wilmington/HealthyKidsRunningSeriesWilmingtonDE; or Food Bank of Delaware, fbd.org/onlinedonations.
