Earl Sinclair Norwood, loved to sing
Earl Sinclair Norwood (born Clark), was called from earth to glory Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, while at home.
He was born in Camden, N.J., to William Augustus and Adeline Clark Jan. 11, 1930. He lived with his family in Camden until approximately age 9. After the death of his mother, he came to live with Emory and Catherine Norwood, his uncle and aunt.
During his early years Earl, or Billy as he was known, worked his uncle and aunt’s farm from morning ‘til night. He learned the valued of hard work and doing a good job. In 1952, after leaving school he joined the U.S. Army. Billy served his country as a medic during the Korean War. He was assigned to multiple duty stations during his military career, including Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Meade, Md., and Fort Sam, Texas. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his childhood home in Millsboro. He would eventually secure a position as a custodian with the Seaford School District and work his way to the position of chief. Billy used the skills and resources he gained from his position with the school to start his own cleaning business. He retired from the state after 29 years of service.
Billy was blessed with four children, William O. Norwood (Joy) of Teaneck, N.J., Tegra Norwood-Robinson (Michael) of Dover, Darryl O. Norwood of Hyattsville, Md., and Kendric R. Norwood (Tanya) of Bear. His legacy continues with 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Billy is preceded in death by his biological parents, William Augustus Clark and Adeline Clark; his uncle Emory Norwood; his aunt Catherine Norwood; his great-granddaughter Armani Norwood; and his grandson Hunter Robinson.
Billy was a member of the Masonic Lodge 10 in Laurel. He loved to sing and would do so with very little prompting. Two of his favorite pieces were “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” He was a devoted member of his church, attending faithfully until he was physically unable to do so.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Nov. 30, at the Millsboro 7th Day Adventist Church, 30007 Cordrey Road, Millsboro, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon for viewing and visitation. Interment with military honors will be held immediately following at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
