East Coast Garden Center fall classes begin Sept. 23

East Coast Garden Center announces its fall class series begins Thursday, Sept. 23 and runs through Oct. 28. Each class fee is $10 and sessions begin at 9 a.m. on Thursdays; however, the Perennial Make & Take Class is $40 and the Terrarium Class is $30 due to materials costs. Classes will be held at the garden center with in-person instruction.
Customers can sign up at eastcoastgardencenter.com on the Events Tab or call the garden center at 302-945-3489 and complete a credit card payment over the phone.

Classes cover a wide range of topics and are suitable for diverse levels of gardening expertise. They include presentations and examples for hands-on familiarization with specific plants and varieties.

Class schedule and topics include:

• Right Plant, Right Place, Sept. 23 -  Learn about the importance of matching a plant’s attributes to the growing conditions of space, light, water and soil. Examples of plants appropriate for certain conditions and functionality will be discussed.
• Perennial Make & Take, Sept. 30 - Learn the basics of container planting, become familiar with perennial flower choices, and take home a personalized container to provide year-after-year pleasure, plus ideas for other deck, patio and landscape updates. $40 fee includes materials.
• Pruning, Oct. 7 - Learn proper pruning for shrubs and trees, controlling size/shape, removing dead/diseased limbs, improving light/air penetration, and encouraging new growth/flowering. Class covers fundamentals of when to prune, where to cut, eliminating problem branches, thinning out, and pruning frequency.
• Terrarium Make & Take, Oct. 14 -  Demonstration lecture covers fundamentals of making a terrarium planter including requirements for glass containers, and different plant and decorative options. Students will assemble their own terrarium to take home. $30 fee includes materials.
• Bacteria, Fungus & Mold Mysteries Solved, Oct. 21 - Learn how different environmental pathogens cause common diseases in the home landscape, including fungus and molds. Tips on identification, control and management will also be shared along with reference resources. Bring a bagged sample to identify.
• Houseplants, Oct. 28 - Review environmental and health benefits of plants along with their aesthetic attributes. Class offers hands-on information on a wide variety of plants, plus products and growing conditions essential to their health.
