Eleanor E. Lewis, retired cashier

Eleanor E. Lewis, 88, of Millsboro passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021.  

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Glen and Edna West Empet.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Marshall Lewis in 2009; as well as her sister Hilda Bryson.   

She retired from Acme Markets, where she worked as a cashier.  Eleanor bowled with the St. Ann’s Bowling League.  She enjoyed gardening, making cross stitch projects and caring for her cats.  Eleanor was the kindest, sweetest person you could meet.  She adored her husband and loved taking care of her nieces and nephews when they were young.   

She is survived by five nieces, Nancy Alvarado (David) of Oak Harbor, Wash., Susan McCartney (William) of Delran, N.J., Paula Rogers (Mark) of Millsboro, Jill Green (Denny) of Millsboro and Vicki Lecates of Georgetown, as well as one nephew, Bruce Gardner (Joanne) of Lewes.  She also leaves behind great-nieces and great-nephews Stephen Alvarado, Amanda Alvarado, Mark McCartney (Erin), Meghan Kmush (Tony), Ryan McCartney (Kalene), Travis Rogers (Jessica) and Brooke Mitchell.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, at Millsboro Cemetery, where Eleanor will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Marshall.  Due to the COVID pandemic restrictions, social distancing and masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Philadelphia, PA  19106.
