Epworth UMC installs water-filling station

Zero single-use water bottles is goal
October 9, 2019

Epworth United Methodist Church is walking the walk with its new water fountain. Following an effort of Epworth’s Green Team, a water bottle-filling station and drinking water fountain was installed Sept. 13 in the church in Rehoboth Beach. The new fountain replaces an older one, which could not be used for refilling reusable water bottles.

One of the key local objectives of Epworth’s Green Team has been to reduce the number of single-use plastics such as water bottles, and started with this in-house initiative to support that objective. The funding for the new bottle filler fountain was jointly provided by Social Justice and the Green Team ministries at Epworth. Money has been raised through sales of Fair Trade coffees, teas and chocolates by the Social Justice group, and sales of repurposed feed bags made into tote bags by one of the church members, Gail Gingrich.
