Farmers market guests treated to jazzy morning

Reggie Harris and his band produce fresh tunes
October 17, 2022

Lewes Elementary School played host to a jazz jam fest and the fall version of the Historic Lewes Farmers Market Oct. 15.

Reggie Harris has become a staple at the market when the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival is in town, and this year he brought along a few friends to add audible pleasure to a place that treats all senses to delightful experiences.

While some wandered from tent to tent in search of the perfect addition to appease their autumn appetite, others set up chairs and sat along the grass toward the rear of the recently renovated school to listen to Reggie Harris and the Reggie Harris Band. Joining the musicians and adding a lovely voice to the smooth tunes was vocalist Kim Still, who received generous applause from an upbeat crowd enjoying a picturesque Saturday.

Drummer Trev Rivers effortlessly kept the beat going on a beautiful drum kit he had purchased as a retirement gift. He made sure he was bringing the pristine wood-painted set to the outdoor venue and it glistened along with Harris’ saxophone in the fall sun. When complimented on his solos, Rivers said the guys he was playing with made it easy. Joining Harris, Still, and Rivers were bassist William Stewart, guitarist James Pender and Sam Ricci on the keys.

Harris is about as cool as it gets and his solos showed just that. As songs build and jams take paths of their own, Harris’ saxophone announces its presence to the audible spectrum with extreme confidence. Subtle blows lead to wonderful wails from Harris and claps and cheers from the audience.

The only trick to this treat was lending an open ear to Reggie Harris and the Reggie Harris Band while gawking at gourds and picking out pumpkins.
