Film society’s Art House Theater completes run at Movies at Midway
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society has announced the suspension of the Art House Theater at Movies at Midway as of Tuesday, Nov. 10. In January 2006, the film society welcomed the opportunity to help develop a year-round audience of independent films at the Movies at Midway.
Since that time, the film society has programmed 66 independent films at theater 14, including such wonderful films as “Capote,” “Atonement,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and “The Kite Runner.”
“We are pleased that the Art House Theater’s success has inspired the Movies at Midway to now make their own selection of independent films,” said society board President Fritz Schranck, “such as the recent screening of ‘(500) Days of Summer.’ We wish the Movies at Midway continued success with the inclusion of independent films in their selection.”
To the many supporters of the Art House Theater, Executive Director Sue Early said “Thank you for your loyal attendance as well as encouraging friends and neighbors to attend the films. This community was very fortunate to enjoy the Art House Theater’s year-round offerings which are typically not available in this type of non-metropolitan area.” Early further acknowledges gratitude to Movies at Midway owner Richard Derrickson for generously offering the film society this opportunity.
The last Art House Theater film will be showing “A Serious Man,” the new film from Academy Award-winning writer/directors Joel and Ethan Coen, through Turesday, Nov 10. This film tells the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and F-Troop is on TV.
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will continue to explore other opportunities for expanding independent film screenings throughout Sussex County.
True independent film lovers will be able to enjoy a five-day marathon of great features, documentaries and shorts at the 12th anniversary of the film festival, Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 11-15.
