Film society names regional showcase award winners

May 24, 2024

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announced the winners of the 2024 Regional Film Showcase held May 3-5 at the Cinema Art Theater.

This year, the society received 33 film submissions for consideration. From the semifinal round of 12 entries, the panel of judges selected seven finalists to be screened as part of the showcase.

Seven filmmakers from three states presented titles with a diverse range of topics.

The jury awarded the Morris & Rosyln Fierberg Film Prize to filmmaker Benjamin Wagner for “Friends & Neighbors,” a documentary on post-traumatic stress syndrome.

The Fierberg Jury Prize was awarded to filmmaker Debbie Camper and her documentary “It’s Still Not About Me.” In the film, a young woman and her disconnected family must pull together when her younger brother and youngest son go missing.

Andrew Fierberg said, “My folks’ life in Lewes was joyous, and their love of films apparent as members of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. After their passing, it just made sense to form the foundation in their name and focus resources on cultivating future filmmakers.” The total prize award is $450.

Organizers extend special thanks to all regional film showcase participants, and to Ida and Jeffrey Rowe, film host sponsors for the 2 1/2-day showcase.
