Fire causes $500,000 in damage to Bethany Beach home

July 12, 2022

A Bethany Beach house fire July 12 caused about $500,000 in damages.

The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. at a single-family home in the 31000 block of May Drive in Bethany Lakes, said John Galaska, chief deputy state fire marshal.

Firefighters with Millville Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the dwelling. The home was occupied at the time of the fire, Galaska said, but all occupants escaped without injury.

State fire investigators determined the fire was accidental and was caused by an electrical malfunction in the exterior pool equipment area. There were no reported injuries.
