Folk artist Kathy Buschi exhibiting at Nassau Valley Vineyards

Meet-the-artist reception set Sept. 5
September 1, 2021

Kathy Buschi of Milton is exhibiting her art at Nassau Valley Vineyards during the month of September.

A meet-the-artist reception will be held from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5. There also is a farmers market held during those Sunday hours at the vineyard.

Buschi is well known for her Delaware scenes, especially those of the Lewes area. She is a self-taught artist and paints with mainly acrylics and sometimes oils on Masonite. She started painting in 1979 after her husband bought her an oil paint set for Christmas. At that time she was pregnant with their daughter. Shortly after that, they moved from Long Island, N.Y., to New Hampshire, where the state’s beauty inspired Buschi to paint idyllic pictures of rural early American life.

In 1996, the Buschis moved to Delaware, and in 1999, Kathy started having prints of her work produced.

Buschi’s paintings come alive with people and animals. She often includes her daughter Jessica as a child, along with Phebe and Samantha, the yellow labs Jessica grew up with, in her works. The little red-haired girl with the two yellow labs has become the artist's trademark. Viewers may also spot her grandchildren, a 10 year-old girl and identical twin 7-year-old red-headed boys in her paintings.

While she has won multiple art awards in several states, Buschi said her greatest reward comes when people tell her that her paintings make them feel happy.

Buschi exhibits her work at several local art shows including the Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival at the Lewes Historical Society and St. Peter’s Art Show in Lewes. She is a member of the Rehoboth Art League.
