The former M&T Bank on Route 1 in the Forgotten Mile just north of Dewey Beach is no more.
Demolition crews took down the small building July 30, as part of the first step to redevelop the property into seven luxury single-family homes.
The 0.7-acre property was purchased for $2.1 million in July 2024 by EVG - Admiral Ventures LLC of Chantilly, Va. A sign on the property says Evergreen Homes is planning to build a community called Even Tide.
According to Sussex County records, the Sussex Trust Co. purchased the property in 1983 to build a “drive-in” bank. M&T Bank took over the property about 2011.
Evergreen Homes, as EVG-UDC Ventures LLC, is also planning to build seven units at the site of the former The Dunes motel just a few hundred feet south.
