The inaugural Fort Miles Run Through History 5K attracted 170 runners May 7 in Cape Henlopen State Park.

Among the participants was the family of Gary Wray, a dedicated historian who was one of the driving forces behind the development of the Fort Miles museum. Wray died Feb. 3, 2022, after a short but courageous fight against cancer.

Winning the race was Austen Cave, 22, of Delmar in 17:21. Rounding out the top five were Matt Sparacino, 45, of Harrington in 18:24; Mike Sewell, 53, of Lewes in 19:48; William Leek, 35, of Milton in 20:08; and women’s winner Michele Karsnitz, 38, of Milton in 20:46.

Leannn Pulchny, 31, of Lewes finished right behind Karsnitz in sixth place overall with a time of 21:17. Joanne Senft, 52, of Mount Wolf, Pa., won the women’s masters title in 24:36.
