Gary Earl Showers, veteran, teacher
Gary Earl Showers, 84, of Lewes, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at The Moorings in Lewes. He was born in Evansville, Ind., Feb. 11, 1941, son of the late Kenneth Russell Showers and Eva Gay (Cain) Showers.
Gary grew up in Randolph, Ohio, and graduated from Randolph High School in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and made lifelong friends. His education continued with a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a master’s degree from Arizona State University.
He worked as a machinist while earning his degree. Upon graduation, Gary was employed by Phoenix Union High School as a teacher. He was awarded the Phoenix Vocational Industrial Club of America teacher of the year award in 1999. He also received an award for program of the year.
He enjoyed traveling and boating with his wife, family and friends on the many lakes in Arizona. His favorite activity was spending time at Lake Powell.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; a brother, Ralph; and four sisters, Sharon, Nancy, Joyce and Marilyn. He was preceded in death by his son, Dan; and his sister, Janice.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, March 22, at The Moorings at Lewes, 17028 Cadbury Cir., Lewes.
