George Sherman: Heating and cooling for 50 years
The George Sherman Corp this year is celebrating more than 50 years as a family-owned business selling petroleum products and heating, air conditioning and plumbing products and services to customers throughout the region.
Founded in 1960, the company began as Donovan and Sherman Corp. In the early 80’s, the heating oil division of Waples Lumber was purchased creating today’s Sherman Heating Oils.
The heating oil division adds another element of service for customers in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware, and Wicomico and Worcester counties in Maryland, said Dean Sherman, company president.
Sherman said the company recently opened its new Sherman Solution Center, a 3,600 square foot interactive showroom for educating customers about products. The showroom and plumbing, heating and air conditioning division is on Clay Road near Wescoats Corner.
The showroom also gives customers an opportunity to see and feel different products from kitchen faucets to fireplaces, Sherman said.
Many products are installed in settings simulating kitchens, living rooms or other locations in which they would be found.
The Lewes facility also handles geothermal systems, heat pumps, ventilation, boilers and barbecue grills.
Video camera sewer system inspection and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning service agreements are also available.
For new construction projects, the company reviews plans and provides detailed recommendations and estimates. For an existing property, they visit and inspect all aspects and customize a solution. There is never a fee for estimates.
The Lewes store handles several brands of kitchen and bath plumbing fixtures including Eljer, American Standard, Kohler, Delta, Moen and Sterling. They also sell Rheem, Bradford White, and American water heaters and Rinnai tankless water heaters.
Other products include garbage disposals, hot water dispensers, laundry sinks, freestanding showers and shower bases.
The fleet of service vehicles has inventory onboard to complete most calls and can handle beach property winterization and de-winterization.
Each service vehicles is equipped with a notebook computer, which provides service technicians with information about individual properties.
Sherman’s Milton-based petroleum division sells liquefied propane gas, fuel oils, kerosene, diesel fuel, gas fireplaces and logs. The company offers 24-hour customer service, budget payment plans and printed ticket delivery.
