Give an inch, take a yard in Lewes

January 3, 2023

First we had the home regulators. They told you what you can or can't do with your home – mostly can't – ostensibly to keep Lewes' historic perception of itself.

Good grief, Lewes was a poor, smelly fishing town once. Get over yourselves.

Now the tree people want to tell you that they don't like how the trees look in your yard and how you must abide by their regulations.

Make no mistake. The tree people will tell you that they are only making suggestions, but if this passes, watch out. Giving an inch and taking a yard has been the default result of every "suggestion" that was ever offered up to the public.

Only one letter per author will be published every 30 days regarding a particular topic. Authors may submit a second letter within that time period if it pertains to a different issue. Letters may not be critical of personalities or specific businesses. Criticism of public figures is permissible. Endorsement letters for political candidates are no longer accepted.
