Governors Volunteer Award ceremony honors Cape Region groups

In the last 15 years, the Fort Miles Museum volunteer group has grown from four to nearly 400 volunteer members who work within several layers of volunteerism, all focused on sharing the rich history of Delaware’s role in the coastal defense. Shown receiving the award, surrounded by several of the volunteers, is Fort Miles Historical Association President Dr. Gary Wray, left, with Gov. John Carney.

The 2018 Governors Outstanding Volunteer Awards ceremony was held Oct. 24 at Dover Downs. Gov. John Carney said “Volunteers touch every aspect of our lives, usually in ways that are not immediately known, appreciated or recognized. For that reason, we believe it is important to come together as a state to appreciate, celebrate and recognize the outstanding individuals and groups recognized here this evening. We gratefully acknowledge the profound impact that Delaware’s volunteers have on our critical needs. In 2017, volunteers made our neigborhoods, our communities and Delaware a better stronger and healthier place to live, learn, pray and work.”
