Groome Church’s choir loft awaits new singers

Vocal auditions to start April 22
March 13, 2022

To replenish and revamp its music program, which was affected by the pandemic, Groome Church will hold choir auditions beginning Friday, April 22.

“Singing and music are essential and vital to our ministries. We are very much looking forward to once again having a full complement of singers in place, before September, practiced and well rehearsed. We are also happily anticipating the day singers and congregants can gather again in person and raise their voices in song without masks,” said the Rev. Dr. S. Willard Crossan III. ”As Paul said in his Letter to the Ephesians, ‘Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.’ God willing, our congregation plans to do just that: sing and make music in our hearts.”

Groome’s auditions for soprano, alto, tenor and bass positions are open to adults as well as students in middle school and high school.

Those auditioning should be able to read music, have good command of their voice, and be willing to work on their music outside rehearsals. Auditions may also consist of pitch memory, range, vocal strength, sight singing, and singing the first verse of “America” (“My Country ‘Tis of Thee”) as well as one optional prepared piece.

Depending on individuals’ choral experience and level of singing, a monthly honorarium may be available. All auditioners must be fully vaccinated.

Choir rehearsals are held at Groome Church, 601 Savannah Road, Lewes.
