Habitat for Humanity celebrates new home dedication in Milford

November 19, 2025

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity celebrated a milestone Oct. 30, with the dedication of the first completed home in its Milford Homeownership Project.

This event marks a major step forward in the organization’s ongoing effort to expand affordable housing opportunities for families across Sussex County.

Once complete, Habitat’s most recent neighborhood revitalization initiative project will include nine affordable homes in downtown Milford, offering families the stability, security and opportunities that come with homeownership. Construction began in 2024, and additional home dedications are expected to take place over the coming months as several more houses in the project near completion.

“This first dedication represents the heart of what Habitat is all about: people coming together to build not just houses, but opportunity and hope,” said Kevin Gilmore, CEO of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. “Each home in Milford is a promise of a stronger, more vibrant community.”

Located in the heart of Milford, this project continues to bring together volunteers, local leaders and community partners to address the critical need for affordable housing throughout the county. The homes are being built in partnership with qualified homebuyers, who contribute hundreds of sweat-equity hours toward building their homes. Partner families also participate in financial coaching before purchasing their homes at an affordable mortgage rate.

Since 1991, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity has built and sold 202 affordable homes. The organization is on track to complete another 12 homes by July 2026.
