Leadership matters. It’s not enough that a politician has a D next to their name; it’s the platform and the ability to lead that count. Bethany Hall-Long has neither the platform nor the ability to lead. I encourage you to do your research. That research will ultimately show that Hall-Long has no plan, a mediocre record, and a history of unethical practices. Currently, Delaware is ranked 45th in education and 44th in healthcare costs, and 27,000 kids go hungry because their families live in poverty.
Delaware is a small state with a complex political dynamic and a wide range of issues. Hall-Long has refused to do the bare minimum and state how she will bring Delaware forward. No plan has been released by Hall-Long. She simply doesn’t have one. Her counterpart, Matt Meyer, has released two 20-page plans for Delaware. All it seems Hall-Long is interested in doing is standing with this group and that group. To her, simply being a politician, the one making a decision, is good enough.
Maybe we can look to Hall-Long’s governing history to figure out what she's going to do to fix our most pressing issues. She calls herself a national leader in combating the opium crisis, yet it has spiraled out of control over the past five years. She might cite marginal decreases in opioid-related deaths, but those decreases are difficult to trace back to any of her work solely because of how minimal it is. Hall-Long says she champions her work keeping our communities safe, but this is yet another place where you will find minimal work done on her part. She simply claims that she is responsible for improvements in a thing and hopes that we go along. There are no specifics to be provided because Hall-Long simply hasn’t done anything notable in either of those areas. Delawareans deserve a capable leader. Delawareans deserve a leader who is willing to fight our most-pressing issues. Delawareans deserve a leader who won’t cheat them out of their money. Bethany Hall-Long is not that leader.
However, one might say, “But I like her, she seems like a good person.” I must disagree. No good person would cheat their donors out of $200,000. Yes, Bethany Hall-Long gave her husband $200,000 from her campaign. This is a reality that we Democrats must face. Why should we trust a woman who has stolen from her campaign? Why should we give conservatives ammunition in the general election? Why are Delawarean politicians and organizations still donating to her despite this information? If it were up to me, she’d be kicked out of the party and charged in a court of law. We must hold our own to the same standards we hold our opposition, or we will be just as corrupt.
BHL has no history of success. BHL has no plan for Delaware’s future. BHL has a bad moral compass. If she is elected governor, Delaware will continue its downward spiral. We Delawareans are good people who deserve strong and ethical leadership. That is simply not what BHL will give us.
