Harry ‘Hap’ Crystal, retired Delaware State Police captain
Harry Walter Crystal, Capt. Delaware State Police, RET, 72, of Millsboro passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his close family and friends. He was born June 9, 1946, in Wilmington, son of the late Harry Frank and Mildred A. (Hutchison) Crystal.
Hap was a graduate of Conrad High School and attended the University of Delaware. He was in the Delaware National Guard for four years from 1964-68. Hap retired in 1988 at the rank of captain with the Delaware State Police after 20 years of service. For many years he played with the Delaware Touch Football League, and for the past eight years has worked with the Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training Security Staff. A good game of golf or a trip out to his favorite fishing spot was of tremendous satisfaction to him; however, spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren, brought him the most pleasure.
Hap is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth E. (Bette) Valente Crystal; two children; H. Kenneth Crystal of Everett, Wash., and Kimberly Crystal Scurti (Joseph) of Millsboro; and five grandchildren; Baylee Crystal Agnetti, Thomas J. Agnetti, Samantha L. Agnetti, H. Jake Crystal and Matier G. Stark.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, 1131 North DuPont Highway, Dover, Sunday, Jan. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Private by invitation only, casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kim Crystal Scurti for Medical Missions Trip to Swaziland, Africa, by visiting Kim's Medical Mission GoFundMe on Facebook under Kim Crystal. There will be a donation drop box for the medical mission trip at the Celebration of Life as well.
