Helen’s Sausage to open near Lewes
Helen’s Famous Sausage House, the iconic Delaware breakfast and lunch spot, is planning to open near Lewes.
The family-owned restaurant will open this fall in the Vineyards at 21431 Zinfandel Lane, west of Five Points. It will be the third Helen’s location, joining its restaurants in Smyrna and Newark.
Helen Achenbach first opened its doors in 1983. Clifford J. Murphy III, Achenbach’s grandson and the third-generation owner, took the reins in 2022, and welcomed his nephew Zach Hunter as co-owner in 2023.
Hunter said the beach has been on their list.
“The beach has always been a special place to Helen and all of our family,” said Hunter, a Long Neck homeowner just like Helen was, in a news release. “Finding a location that could serve the community year round was important to us.”
Helen’s website shows sausage and scrapple at the heart of the breakfast menu. They also have a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. Hunter said the full menu will available when the doors open here.
“So many people stop at the Smyrna store on their way to the beach,” Hunter said. “We’re excited to become a real part of the community there, and be more accessible to visitors coming from all over.”
Construction on the Lewes location is expected to begin in the spring, according to the news release.
