Historic Lewes Farmers Market to hold food drive Nov. 14, 21

November 11, 2020

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will conduct a food drive from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 14, and Nov. 21. Donations will benefit Casa San Francisco in Milton and Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth.

Customers are asked to bring non-perishable items to the market and also to consider purchasing fresh food to donate to these two organizations who feed community members who need a little help. The food pantries request certain non-perishables, including spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf stable milk, rice and beans. Donors are asked to honor the market’s mission and the health needs of people who use the food bank by providing healthy foods.

Customers and friends should bring items to the HLFM tables at both the entrance and exit of the market.

At the end of market hours, the produce and other foods will be gathered and delivered. It’s a challenging time for many, and this is a good way to get nutritious local food to more community members. Market organizers thank customers in advance for their generosity.

The fall market will continue through Nov. 21, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, at Richard Shields Elementary School parking lot in Lewes.

Farmers/producers will be offering all the bounties of a fall harvest: carrots, sweet potatoes, garlic, kale, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, beets, radishes, winter squashes, turnips, lettuces, apples, mushrooms, peppers, oysters in the shell, fish, cider, chicken, pork, jams and jellies, honey, baked goods and fresh-cut flowers for the table.

Customers can email info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org to receive the market newsletter and see specific listings of what’s available by vendor. The market continues its SNAP program and matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. Customers can learn more at the SNAP tent next to the market trailer.

All market vendor info is available at historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.
