Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will welcome meditation teacher Carl Skooglund for an evening dharma talk and a full-day meditation retreat Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11.
The evening talk will compare contemporary forms of mindfulness with Buddhism’s earliest forms. The full-day retreat will include periods of guided, sitting and walking meditation, and a question-and-answer session. During the retreat, the group will also experiment with portions of the Buddha’s Foundations of Mindfulness discourse. All are welcome to attend this weekend of meditation and discussion.
Skoogland has been practicing since 1993. He has also trained with Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leader program and is a regular teacher at the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, D.C.
The dharma talk of Buddhist teachings, along with discussion and refreshments, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., May 10, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 211 Mulberry St. near Second Street, Lewes. The daylong retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 11, also at the parish hall.
The suggested donation for Friday’s talk is $10, and $45 for the Saturday retreat; lunch is included Saturday. For those with limited income, 50 percent or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up; no explanation is needed.
