Interview with Cape soccer coach Patrick Kilby

June 7, 2020

Cape Gazette Sports Editor Emeritus Dave Frederick vibrated the pockets of all five of Cape’s fall coaches and asked them the same questions regarding coronavirus and its possible effect on the fall season. In this article, Frederick shares comments from Cape soccer coach Patrick Kilby.

CG: How do you prepare for a season when you don’t know if it will happen?

Kilby: Boys’ soccer is preparing as if the season will go off without a hitch. We have already had a boosters and coaches meeting. Our player meeting via Zoom will occur June 4.

CG: What about summer leagues and open fields?

Kilby: Our summer league at DE Turf is occurring. When the fields open up at Cape, we will have captains’ practices and fitness sessions.

CG: Is it time to look at the rising senior class for leadership? And perhaps designate captains?

Kilby: No, not yet. For me, the cream will rise to the top and leaders will present themselves.

CG: Has anyone asked for your input in regard to safety concerns when soccer resumes?

Kilby: No one has asked for my input.
