James Allen Barbour Sr., avid outdoorsman
James Allen Barbour Sr., 87, of Lewes, passed away at home in his sleep Friday, March 10, 2023. He was born Jan. 8, 1936, in Durham, N.C., son of the late Hezekiah and Estell (Breece) Barbour.
James married the love of his life, Carole Barbour, and together they enjoyed many beautiful years and adventures. He retired from Diamond Shamrock after many dedicated years and was a member of the National Guard Reserve. He was also a proud member of the Freemasons.
James was an avid outdoorsman who at every opportunity presented enjoyed fishing, and riding his scooter in the city of Lewes and on the boardwalk. A great storyteller, he captivated anyone's attention with his narrating skills. James truly treasured time spent with his family and friends, above all. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Loved by many, he will be forever missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole Barbour. He is survived by his children: Debbie Jennings (Preston), Tina Edwards (Bobby), James Allen Barbour Jr. (Sunrise), Timothy Barbour (Maria); his stepsons, Charles Gouert (Debbie) and Trevor Gouert; his 22 grandchildren; his 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be private.
Final care for Mr. Barbour has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
