Jazz masses return to All Saints' and St. George's Oct. 15-16

October 12, 2022

The Episcopal Parish of All Saints' Church and St. George's Chapel will be rocking and rolling with spiritual music as jazz masses make a return. In conjunction with the Rehoboth Jazz Festival Weekend, the first of the two masses will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at All Saints' Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

The second will be at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at St. George's Chapel, 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson. Both masses are free and all are welcome to attend. A free-will offering will be taken to help offset the cost of these special services.

Featured in the masses will be the Adult Choir of All Saints' and St. George's under the direction of Jon Rania, parish music director. Special guests include locally acclaimed vocalist Jackie Johnson, graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and a vocal music major at Temple University. Also providing music for the services will be the Moravian University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Neil Wetzell, music department chair and professor.

"This will be a spiritually uplifting program with a blend of musical styles that include jazz, gospel, African American spirituals and more,” said Rania. “Some people enjoy it so much they actually come out for both masses, so get here early if you want a good seat!"

Both church and chapel are fully handicapped-accessible. Parking is available on the street and in the parking lots of both locations.
