Jessie Faye Margaret Achey, Boeing retiree, traveler
Jessie Faye Margaret (MacDougald) Achey, 84, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born May 27, 1939, in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of the late Ross and Flora MacDougald.
Jessie grew up on the family farm, and enjoyed farm life and animals throughout her childhood. She graduated from Pictou Academy and then went on to work in Halifax for Nova Scotia Light and Power. Jessie later moved to Ottawa, where she worked for the Canadian government. It was there that she met her future husband, David, while he was there on a deicing program for Boeing helicopters. Jessie and David married in May 1962 and settled in Delaware County, Pa., where they raised their children, David and Vicki.
Jessie retired from Boeing after 25 dedicated years and moved to Rehoboth Beach. Jessie and David built their dream home on a beautiful, waterfront lot in Pinewater Farms, where she enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing with her children and grandchildren. She loved to bowl at Millsboro Lanes, and was very creative with decorative painting and woodworking with her scroll saw. Jessie was a skilled seamstress and quilter, and enjoyed gardening and morning walks with her Pinewater friends. She loved taking care of her bluebirds and entering her paintings at the Harrington State Fair, where she was awarded her fair share of ribbons.
Jessie was an avid traveler, taking camping trips with family, and she traveled to all 50 states, spending two months in Alaska. She and David had many adventures with Grand Circle Travel on their land and river cruises. The many destinations visited were Italy, China, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa on safaris, Fiji Islands, and Hawaii.
Above all, Jessie cherished time spent with those she held most dear. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Loved by many, she will be forever missed by those who knew her.
Jessie is survived by her beloved husband, David L. Achey Jr.; her children, David L. Achey III (Lori) of Stokesdale, N.C., Vicki Jarvie (Patrick) of Ocean View, and Nancy Millar-Kolody (David) of St. Martins, New Brunswick, Canada; her grandchildren, David Achey IV, Jamie Trogdon, Elizabeth Jarvie, Ross Jarvie, Melissa Kolody and Levi Kolody; her great-grandchildren, Mina Trogdon, Breland Trogdon, Deacon Kolody and Octavia Kolody; and her siblings, Alma McLean, Jim MacDougald and Martha Gammage.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Interment will be held privately.
