John E. Lackus, enjoyed gardening

John E. Lackus, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away at his residence Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., March 6, 1932, son of the late Joseph and Tafilia (Rube) Lackus Sr.

Mr. Lackus enjoyed gardening and took great pride in the fruits of his labor. On bright sunny days he could be found on his boat, fishing and crabbing. Mr. Lackus was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes, the American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach, and the Knights of Columbus in Pennsylvania. But the membership closest to his heart was his church, St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, where he attended Mass every day until his health would no longer permit him to attend.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lackus was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Potenburg; and two brothers, Joseph Lackus Jr. and Stanley Lackus. He is survived by his wife Peach Lackus of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Anna (Ida) Pikes of Ridley Park, Pa.; his godson, Michael DeJesse and family of Delaware County, Pa.; special friend, Judy King of Rehoboth Beach; many nieces and nephews; many friends in Rehoboth Beach and Pennsylvania.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Dr., Lewes. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
