Joseph Charles Smith, Midway Lions Club member

Joseph Charles Smith, 88, of Milton passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at his home. He was born Wednesday, July 19, 1933, in Peekskill, N.Y., to Thomas Smith and Helen (Vines) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, class of 1950. Right out of high school he entered the Marines and served for several years. Mr. Smith then went on to work for C&P Telephone Co. On April 14, 1956, Joe married Eileen Joann McAndrews, and they would remain married until her passing. Mr. Smith also worked for many years at Georgetown University. Joe was very active with the Lanham Boys Club before retiring to Delaware. It was here that he joined the local Midway Lions Club.

Joe is survived by his sons: Kevin and his wife Susan, Brian and his wife Dannette, Martin, Stephen and his wife Margie, and Colin; his grandchildren: Shannon Gale (Brendan), Lauren Sullivan (Billy), Lily Smith, Courtney Sames (Nick), Briannon Smith, Brian Smith Jr. (fiancée Kim), Daniel Smith, Jennifer Smith, Katy Tomlinson (Brent), Jeffrey DeShong (Hannah), Luke Smith and Dominic Smith; his great-grandchildren: Spencer Gale, Conner Gale, Tanner Gale, Dylan Fischer, Madylan Fischer, Kendall Sullivan, Trinity Sullivan, Jordyn Beath, Kailyn Beath, Hailey Banwell, Braden Akgul, Brooke Akgul, Hannah Yalman, Caroline Tomlinson, and Roran DeShong; his sister-in-law, Mary K. Shipp; his nieces: Pamela Shipp and Veronica Pallia; and his nephews: Mark Shipp and John Shipp.

All services will be private.
