Juice Fresh in Rehoboth Beach will add custom wraps to its juice and breakfast menu this year.
Owner Melissa Harrison described the wrap bar as a mini version of Subway, where customers will be allowed to pick their own ingredients to make hearty, with beans and cheeses, among other offerings, or veggie wraps.
Juice Fresh began serving food last year, starting with crepes, which will be back this summer. Harrison said everything in Juice Fresh is 100 percent gluten free. Among the condiments for the crepes are fresh fruits, salsa, frozen yogurt and cheese.
Founded by Melissa and her husband, David Harrison, Juice Fresh has been open at Henlopen Junction for more than two years, with its top-selling cold pressed, raw organic juices. Harrison said cold press means breaking down fruits and vegetables slowly to maintain the live enzymes, giving the drinker energy for several hours. Nutrients in the drinks are visible before shaking them; the juices are meant to be drunk cold and have a drink-by date listed on the bottle.
Harrison said Juice Fresh’s juices are natural, with no sugar or water added. The process of making juice uses five to seven pounds of fruit and vegetables per drink and can six hours to make.
Individual bottles are $9.95 each. Juice Fresh also offers three-day juice cleanses to rid the body of toxins and help lose weight. Harrison said during the cleanse, the client will drink juice six times per day with water mixed in every hour. Cleanses are available by preorder only.
“What it does is it flushes the junk,” Harrison said. “The first time I did it I lost 10 pounds. The average person loses about 6 to 10 pounds. It changes according to the person.”
The Harrisons became interested in drinking juice thanks to their son, a triathlete.
“He started drinking juice and getting a lot greater results in his performance,” Harrison said. “He said, ‘Dad, you should start looking at juice.’"
The family started making juice at home twice a day and getting good results.
"We thought, ‘We should do something with this,’” Harrison said.
Their juices are now offered in 21 states, Harrison said, and Juice Fresh has satellite locations in Baltimore and Bethesda, Md. The Harrisons also take their juices to local farmers markets, including Rehoboth. Harrison said the store is enticing for locals, as there is free parking, and the store is just outside Rehoboth.
“Our store is all about nutrition and health and educating people. Once people experience the juice and experience the results, the price equals out,” Harrison said.
Juice Fresh is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on Juice Fresh, visit juicefresh.net or call 844-584-2366.
