Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue seeks donations

August 22, 2020

Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue was formed as a nonprofit organization in 2006 to serve eastern Sussex communities in managing cat and kitten communities, both domestic and feral.

The all-volunteer organization provides services including rescue; foster; and trap, spay, neuter and return; and low-cost shot clinics. Volunteers also socialize and feed feral colonies. Food, kitten formula, and vet visit costs are provided for foster caregivers. Just Us will try to find a home for every adoptable cat or kitten.

Keys to the work of Just Us are its alliances with the Brandywine Valley SPCA, local pet stores and a large no-kill shelter in Maryland that takes adoptable cats and kittens. Just Us also works with many other nonprofit rescue groups in and outside Sussex County, since feline friends don’t know about geographic boundaries.

To date in this calendar year, Just Us has arranged for 371 spay or neuter procedures, many of these at no cost to the pet owner or colony caregiver, and always at no cost to the foster family. And this year, Just Us paid for 50 free spay or neuter procedures for pets belonging to those whose jobs were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As nonprofit rescue group, Just Us relies solely on donations of all kinds, but right now the rescue is especially in need of monetary donations. It has been unable to conduct its monthly low-cost cat and dog vaccination clinics and cannot hold its annual fundraiser, which has been a mainstay of its fundraising activities for the past eight years.

For more information,  to volunteer or to donate, call Bob Harrison, Just Us president, at 302-228-7387, or Melissa Aldrich, vice president, at 302-260-0528. To donate, mail a tax-deductible donation to Just Us, P.O. Box 32, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
