Keep the Beebe Treasure Chest open

February 14, 2023

I was disappointed and surprised to read that the Beebe Treasure Chest thrift store is closing its doors as of April 30. I frankly don't understand why unless they are losing their lease. Why close a cash flow-positive entity where the inventory is free and many of the workers are kind, generous volunteers?

Thrift stores benefit many of us as well as the environment. Instead of winding up in a landfill, items and clothing can be recycled. Donors can get a tax deduction if they itemize their deductions and customers can get a great deal on things. Over the years, my wife and I have found many nice collectibles. I always thought the store also could have benefited in the past if they had two days where the hours were 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesdays offer 30% off to people over 55. I have reached out to David Tam and I encourage those of you that would like to see the store remain open to do the same. Happy Valentine’s Day!
