The Kentucky Derby ends in controversy

May 10, 2019

This past Saturday, history was made, but not in a good way. After 150 years, for the first time ever, the horse who "won" the Kentucky Derby, Maximum Security, was disqualified for making contact with another horse and impeding progress.

Because of this, Country House was declared the winner. I personally think this was an extreme penalty for what happened. I think Maximum Security deserved second place and not disqualification.

The condition of the track because of the heavy rain was terrible. I think it is ridiculous that the races are even run in bad weather conditions. These beautiful and expensive horses deserve safer performance conditions just like athletes are given in other sports.

In baseball news, the Philadelphia Phillies are in first place by two games in the National League East Division. If they can play two weeks of great baseball, they can actually take full control of this division.

I say this because the other teams that should be contention are performing much weaker than expected. The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves are very young teams on offense and the Washington Nationals are overrated as usual.

Nothing like putting some pressure on my Phillies.

See you on the sidelines!
