September 21, 2019

The Rev. Dr. Kharma R. Amos has been hired as the new minister of the Unitarian Universalists of Central Delaware in Dover.

Ordained 17 years ago by the Metropolitan Community Churches, Amos has served in both pastoral and denominational leadership positions within MCC. She has been seeking plural standing with the Unitarian Universalist Association and is thrilled to be joining the UUCD in its unique role in the central Delaware community.

The Unitarian Universalists of Central Delaware are affiliated with the UUA and are known for their commitment to liberal faith, open minds and active social justice. The UU congregation in Dover is 10 years old; it is one of the only congregations of its kind in this area.

UUCD is intentionally diverse, drawing together people of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities and family statuses. Congregation members are committed to seeking unity in the midst of difference and finding ways to live out their common values of love and justice with others who are seeking to do the same.

Amos received her master of divinity degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pa., in 2002 and her doctor of ministry degree from Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., in 2008. She has published works on queer theology and social activism, among other topics.

Amos currently lives in Rehoboth Beach with her wife, the Rev. Elder Diane Fisher, pastor of MCC Rehoboth, and their two pets, Kady and Téa.

UUCD truly welcomes everyone for worship at 10 a.m., Sundays, at Temple Beth Sholom, 340 North Queen St., Dover.
