Knights of Columbus re-elect Louis Anderson as grand knight
The Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297, which is composed of approximately 130 members from the Rehoboth Beach and Lewes area, selected Louis Anderson to succeed Dan Serba as grand knight of the Star of the Sea Council in July 2008. Anderson has recently been elected to serve a second term beginning in July 2009.
Anderson served more than 26 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a colonel. During his distinguished military career, he served in numerous command assignments.
Anderson’s last three assignments included commander of the 93rd Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, V Corps, Federal Republic of Germany; political-military planner, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5), Joint Chiefs of Staff; and director for psychological operations, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense - Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict.
Anderson has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from San Jose State University and a master of arts degree in human relations from the University of Oklahoma.
Upon retirement from the Army, Anderson successfully pursued a second career in the defense industry in Washington, D.C.
He was a project manager and program director for Avanco International, a firm that provided support to the Pentagon.
Anderson and his wife Dede later moved to Rehoboth Beach, where he is very active as a volunteer in a variety of community programs.
The Knights of Columbus is an organization of almost 2 million Catholic men who are active in a wide variety of family, community, charitable and religious programs.
The organization was founded in 1882 and is headquartered in New Haven, Conn. Many of the members of Council 7297 are affiliated with St. Edmond’s Church in Rehoboth Beach and St. Jude’s Church in Lewes.
