Latricia Wright, proud Native American

April 4, 2024

Latricia "Odette" Wright, 83, known by her Native American name "She Who Knows," passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024. She was born May 28, 1940, in Millsboro, to the late Sylvester and Edith Norwood.

She graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kan.  After graduating, she lived in California before moving back to Delaware.

Odette was a beloved member of her community, known for her skills as a beautician and her passion for preserving her Native American heritage. Always a people person, she served 31 years as curator for the Nanticoke Indian Museum, where she dedicated herself to sharing the rich history and culture of her people.

In 2014, she was inducted into The Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame, where she was honored for her work that created a lasting legacy for future generations, preserving the history and heritage of Delaware’s Nanticoke Indians.

Odette was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Charles L. "Sharkey" Wright; her daughter, Andrea Wright; her sister, Pecita Lonewolf; and her brothers, Robert “Jitter” Norwood and Merril “Dinkle” Norwood.

She is survived by her grandsons, Jeffery Wright and Jason Wright; brother, Lispinard “Splinter” Norwood; bonus daughter, Altrenia Wright; bonus grandson, Timothy Troy Bailey; as well as several great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Odette is also fondly remembered by the dedicated and caring staff of the Cadia Renaissance Bethany Cottage.

While dementia may have robbed her of many things, it never dimmed her spirit.  Odette was happy and singing until the end.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at Indian Mission Cemetery, 22701 Indian Mission Road, Harbeson, where Odette will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Latricia to the Nanticoke Indian Museum.
