Delaware Hospice’s Luanne Holland, medical accounts executive for Sussex County, gratefully accepted a $500 donation from Carolyn and Richard Sames, representatives of the historic Laurel Cotillion.
The Laurel Cotillion was founded 50 years ago, along the lines of the social dance brought to the United States from France in the late 1700s. At one time, more than 50 couples participated in the Laurel Cotillion, the last cotillion in Delaware, which sponsored three formal dances each year. With dwindling numbers, Laurel Cotillion’s members decided it was time to close down the organization after their final dance, held April 20.
When the decision came up to donate remaining funds to a local nonprofit, several individuals nominated Delaware Hospice for its care of patients and families.
Holland said, “We sincerely appreciate this generous gift, which will make an impact in helping us continue to meet the needs of our community through our programs and services."
