Let the LeBron sweepstakes begin!

June 15, 2018

Basketball:
Now that the NBA season has come to a close, the biggest NBA summer story will be where LeBron James decides to play the rest of his career. He is a free agent again this year. I believe all 30 teams would want him to play for them. There are rumors about LeBron wanting to join both Los Angeles teams, the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers and even staying with his current team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. I would obviously be very happy if he came to Philadelphia, but I won't believe it until it happens. LeBron has until the middle of July to make a decision and I'm sure there will be lots of talk about it until it happens.

Tennis:
In the French Open tournament, Rafael Nadal won an amazing 11th French Open title in his 15th try. Unless he gets injured, I think he will still be the favorite in that tournament for the next few years. On the women's side, Simona Halep of Romania had a breakthrough win for her first major, after having a number of prior chances.

Horses:
In horse racing, Justify became only the 13th horse in history to win the Triple Crown. The Belmont Stakes race was much more enjoyable to watch because the weather was perfect. The other races were hard to watch with the bad weather and the fear that a horse would be badly injured. It will be interesting to see if Justify continues to race or just be put out to stud. Winning the Triple Crown is amazing but everyone always compares the horses to Secretariat. That's a tough act to follow.

Golf:
The men's US Open golf tournament is being played this week at the Shinnecock Hills golf course in Long Island, New York. Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, is one of the original member clubs in the USGA. This golf course looks to be a more typical setting for the US Open than where it has been in the past few years. The US Open is usually known as one of the toughest tournaments to win throughout the whole year and that could prove to be true this year. The weather forecast is calling for significant winds for the whole tournament. Because of this, a score close to par could win.

See you on the sidelines!
