Letter: President Trump a hero for veterans

November 27, 2018

In response to Jeff from Lewes’ article, “Trump a no-show on Veterans Day” tries to downplay our president’s zeal and vigor for the support of our military veterans. My take on Jeff is he receives his information from the fake news outlets that continue to bash our president and report unfavorable articles in the worst possible way.
Jeff must seek to raise his sights by embracing other sources of news, and look to discovering he is one of many who for years have been controlled by the fake media and those who want to suppress the true American spirit: “People of action, not gossip conspirators.”

President Trump is one of those Americans who is a man of action. See just two of the actions he has taken on behalf of our military veterans:

President Trump signed legislation June 6 paving the way for a major overhaul of the Department of Veterans Affairs and expanded access for veterans to VA-funded care in the private sector.

The measure, which passed both chambers of Congress last month with overwhelming bipartisan support, delivers on a key campaign promise for Trump, who pledged to provide veterans with more non-VA healthcare choices

President Donald Trump signed the Department of Veterans Affairs fiscal 2019 budget into law, giving the department a funding boost of more than 6 percent, and pushing the agency’s total spending over $200 billion for the first time.

The president finalized the bill at a ceremony held in the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center, surrounded by federal officials and local veterans. He praised the massive spending measure as another promise kept by his administration. “With this funding bill we have increased the VA’s budget to the largest ever,” he said.

“We are delivering the resources to implement crucial VA reforms.”

The bill includes $1.1 billion for the start of a VA electronic health records overhaul and $400 million for opioid abuse prevention within the department, both efforts touted by Trump in the past.

Had Jeff of Lewes been tuned in to some network other than the fake news, he would have seen the president voiced regret at not being able to attend the two cemetery commemoration ceremonies.

My hope for 2020 is that the state of Delaware not just Sussex County vote 59.2 percent or better for President Donald Trump.
