I would like to thank the leaders and members of the Lewes Beach Patrol for their very successful season. Lewes Beach Patrol Capt. Strohm Edwards, Lewes Beach Patrol Chief Mark Woodard, Lewes Beach Patrol Lt. Tori May and their team of young men and women provided an organized, safe, relaxed and friendly environment, with an emphasis on positive communication with the public.
As the city beaches commissioner, I speak to Strohm and Mark each week, finding out their challenges and solutions. They always respond with how much they love their jobs. This certainly shows in their focused work, their outstanding customer service and their desire to improve the Lewes Beach Patrol each year.
I also make it a priority to find out what beachgoers think of Savannah Beach and Johnnie Walker Beach. The No. 1 comment that I hear is appreciation for the extended Mobi-Mats at both beaches. Second is support for the low-key, quiet, old-fashioned nature of our guarded beaches.
As summer turns to autumn, both I and the Lewes Beach Patrol leadership are looking forward to the 2024 season.
