Customers experienced temporary outages
December 8, 2025

The Lewes Board on Public Works repaired a broken water main near the drawbridge at Savannah Road and Gills Neck Road Dec. 8.

Tom Panetta, BPW board president, said customers in the area of Front Street and Gills Neck Road experienced temporary outages.

The City of Lewes sent an email to residents saying the might experience discolored water.

The repairs had Gills Neck closed from Savannah to Rodaline Ave. Panetta said the break was reported around 8 a.m., Dec. 8. He said it happened in an old 12-inch line.

As of the afternoon of Dec. 8, Panetta said they are still investigating the cause, but it was not weather-related because the pipe is 5 feet underground.
