Lewes Chamber Players with composer Hilary Tann to perform Sept. 29

At St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes
September 25, 2019

The Lewes Chamber Players and composer Hilary Tann will open the fourth season of outstanding musical offerings presented by the St. Cecilia Guild with Comes Autumn Time, a classical concert featuring Johannes Sebastian Bach’s “Concerto for Two Harpsichords” at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes.

Featuring violinist Sylvia Ahramjian and cellist Ovidiu Marinescu with organist, pianist and harpsichordist T.J. Thomas, the ensemble-in-residence will present Franz Joseph Hayden’s “Trio in A-flat major” performed on period string instruments with harpsichord.

Composer Hilary Tann will join the program to present her composition “Seven Poems of Stillness” for cello and narrator. The Welsh-born composer lives in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, where she chairs the music department and is the John Howard Payne Professor at Union College, Schenectady.

Three “Slavonic Dances” by 19th-century Czech composer Antonin Dvorak will round out the autumnal program.

This is the first of five appearances by the Lewes Chamber Players in the guild’s 2019-20 season. It will also include concerts by Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music, a dynamic community gospel choir from Maryland; a silent film accompanied by improvisational organist Jackson Borges; and a performance by the Vocal Consort, composed of 24 members auditioned from the larger Arts Chorale of Winchester, Va., directed by Michael Main.

“We are excited to announce our new season of the St. Cecilia Guild as we continue to present a broad spectrum of engaging programming for our community,” said T.J. Thomas, St. Peter’s director of music. “Our mission is to present high-quality music events not heard elsewhere in our area, augmenting St. Peter’s tradition of fine Anglican choral music.”

Last season, more than 2,000 patrons enjoyed guild concerts or services with special music.

Thanks to donors and guild members, all musical performances at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church are offered free of charge. A freewill offering is welcome.
