Lewes Elementary Earth Day awareness entries due March 22

Open Space Alliance Fourth Street Campaign teams with local school
March 13, 2024

The Open Space Alliance Fourth Street Campaign has teamed up with third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classes at Lewes Elementary School to promote awareness of Earth Day and the environmental movement.

In support of efforts to preserve 29 acres of historic and undisturbed land, students are challenged to demonstrate the importance of green space in Lewes by creating drawings or posters.

Some topics for their consideration are: importance of ecosystems; importance of having habitats for wildlife and plant species; how plants and trees help the environment; and importance of Earth Day.

“The community has always supported us, and we would love to support this significant initiative,” said Kimberly Corbidge, Lewes Elementary School principal. Students have until the end of the day Friday, March 22, to submit their entries.

The recognition of winners, who will each receive a Kids’ Ketch gift certificate, will take place at the end of the Race for Open Space 5K and 1-mile walk, set for 9 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes.
